Without going in to ALL of the details, to sum it up, a couple of weeks ago I came home and told Kyle that I decided that I was going to get a nose ring- not a huge nasty one, just a cute little diamond stud. He laughed and didn't take me too seriously. I tried to tell him that I was serious and he just told me to think about it for a while before I went out and did it. Even though for the most part, nose rings might be reserved for 15 year olds who are wanting to rebel against their parents, I had several personal reasons for wanting one, despite that fact that I am a 27 year old, mini-van driving, mother of two. One reason was my new found freedom in not having to wear professional attire anymore, b/c I recently took early retirement from my part-time speech therapist position. Another one, was just that I always secretly thought they were cute. There were a few more reasons that made me want to take the plunge, and although on the outside I may not appear "edgy" enough to pull off a nose ring, somewhere deep inside I am, or maybe I just want to be. So, I took a week to think about it, and to get others opinions. But, I just asked people who I thought would encourage me to do it. So, finally I asked Samuel what he thought about it. I didn't even think he knew what a nose ring was, but once I asked him, he said that he didn't like nose rings and that I couldn't get one. He even mentioned one of our friends who has one, and said that he didn't like hers. A funny feeling to have your 3 year old tell you not to get a nose ring. I'm sure it won't be long until the tables are turned, and I'll be the one telling Samuel not to get a nose ring. So Samuel's opposition to the nose ring, put a little damper on my excitement, but I thought that it would be so small that Samuel would hardly notice it anyway. So, it was still under consideration. Kyle was beginning to take me seriously and even said that he thought it might be cute. Well, today I ran into Urban Outfitters to use some of my Christmas Gold, and I noticed that almost every person working there had something pierced...lips, noses, eyebrows etc. And it seemed like everyone was making a statement that they were super cool and edgy. I almost felt funny even shopping in there, much less, considering to become a fellow piercer. It had me thinking, that even if I got a cute a little nose ring, I just don't want to be making a statement that I am cool and edgy....when really I'm not. So, instead, I bought a purse.

I totally think you should get one. I wanted one (2nd one) a few months ago but my parents would give me way too much crapola about it. A blog I read (4 under 3) inspired me to want one. You should check out her nose ring. It's tiny and very cool. Go for it Melissa. You're only 27 once!
What a girl with a great purse!

I'm assuming that when you wrote, "But, I just asked people who I thought would encourage me to do it"
that that is why you didn't ask what Reid or I thought about it on Christmas. You know I'm just giving you a hard time.
DO IT. :)
that is hilarious!!!! great story!
