Yesterday, we had quite an adventure! We had planned a cookie making day at Emily's house with my mom, cousin Meredith, and grandmother (Mima) to make Mima's famous Christmas Tree cookies. We had fun taking instructions and learning the art of Christmas Tree making. Samuel joined in on the fun, using the first batch of batter that didn't turn out quite right to make his own gingerbread men and christmas bears.
When Samuel was done with the cookies, he went to his favorite place in Emily's house....her walk in closet with the full length mirror. He then convinced Emily to play dress-up with him, which wasn't too hard :)
After eating a good number of the cookies that we made and watching Christmas Shrek, we were ready to call it a day. So we said our goodbyes, got in the car, buckled Samuel in, and locked the doors. I then remembered that I left my wedding rings inside b/c I had taken then off when I was rolling dough. So, with the car running, I told Samuel I would be right back. By then it had begun to rain, so I closed the car door behind me and ran in to get my rings. When I came back out, my door was LOCKED! So was Samuel's door and every other door! The car was running and my baby was inside!!!!! Okay, stay calm.....I ran to get Emily and we called Kyle to see if he knew where the extra set of keys were (which we later found in the glove compartment IN THE CAR!) We frantically called the locksmith who said that they would get back to us with an estimate. Did they not understand my baby was inside the car!!! By then, Samuel had actually fallen asleep which was a miracle! After a few more frantic moments, we called 911. As I told them the situation, my voice was shaking and tears were rolling down my face. Not one to overreact ;) , I waited patiently for the firetruck to come. Soon we heard sirens in the distance, and we knew help was on the way. By then, it was raining quite hard and Samuel was still sound asleep. I stood close to the street and waved them down as the sirens came my way. I tried to be of assistance offering hangers and screwdrivers, which they gladly accepted. Emily stayed on the porch and snapped some pictures knowing this could make for a good blog :)
The sirens and the presence of a firetruck brought some attention to the quiet street, so we had quite a few neighbors and onlookers gathering around in the rain to watch. We even heard some tell others, "There's a baby in there!"
So with the help of four or five drenched firemen, they were finally able to get the car door open, without Samuel EVER waking up! After a few claps and cheers by our growing audience, I thanked them over and over again as they wished me Merry Christmas and hopped back on the truck. I should have given them the warm cookies that I had in my car, but the thought didn't come to me. After the firetruck had left, the neighbors had gone inside, and I once again said goodbye to Emily, I got into my car with a sigh of relief. All was well, and my baby was still asleep. Thank you God!

I locked Harper in the car in a parking garage at the Galleria when I was 5 months pregnant with Hudson! She loves to hear the story about how the firemen came to rescue her.
